Announcing Napera Insight, and an update on the Napera Cobalt beta

Thanks to our Cobalt beta testers who’ve been busy providing great feedback. A new release of the Cobalt web service shipped last month which incorporated much of the feedback from our customers, and we have another release planned in early November. The online feedback mechanism built into the Cobalt Web service has proven very popular and useful.

Since the first Cobalt subscriptions were activated in late July, the Napera service has observed many thousands of transactions, and identified an alarming 585 instances of unhealthy PC’s.

We’ve also seen 41 different flavors of operating system. The chart below shows the most common operating systems observed. As expected, Windows dominated but Mac OS X made a healthy showing at 27%. With the Windows 7 launch this week, it was interesting to see Win 7 already scoring 9%, nearly half the number of Vista PC’s. There was also a fair number of iPhones observed and even a handful of Xboxes.

This week Napera formally unveiled the shipping name for Cobalt, which is Napera Insight. Napera Insight is the first of a family of web-delivered applications from Napera, that help IT managers stay on top of their networks. We will be announcing our first product partners for Napera Insight in early 2010.

Thanks again to our Cobalt beta testers for their hard work and patience. Please keep the feedback coming!
