Start-Up Napera Networks Vows to Make Your Network Healthy

Former WatchGuard Executives, Inventors of the Plug-and-Play Firewall Appliance, Tackle the New Crisis in Network Security: "Health"

SEATTLE, WA, February 22, 2008 -  Startup Napera Networks (http://www.Napera.com) vows to solve the new crisis in network security: health. After years of implementing firewalls and other complex and expensive network security measures, companies today still face a formidable threat: they don't know the overall health of their networks. In fact, a single laptop computer connected to the network by an employee or guest can disrupt an entire company and incur thousands of dollars in IT labor costs. Founded by former WatchGuard executives Todd Hooper, CEO, and Chris Boscolo, CTO, Napera Networks has the experience to solve these tough network security challenges and will once again reinvent the status quo to empower small and medium enterprises (SME) to build safe, secure and healthy networks.

"The Napera team invented the firewall appliance at WatchGuard," says network security expert, Joel Snyder, senior partner at Opus One. "Their approach to solving the problem of keeping networks healthy is aimed straight at the customers that need it most.  No one else has come close to building a product that delivers large enterprise security with the ease of use and price point demanded by smaller companies.”

It's a strategy the Napera team was successful with at WatchGuard: invent the first easy-to-use, affordable network security appliance for the millions of small and medium sized companies worldwide, which ultimately advances the development and adoption of better technologies by organizations of every size. Napera’s founders are building another first – a Network Health and Identity solution designed specifically for SMEs.

"When we started Napera in 2006, customers told us there were no compelling solutions on the market that enabled SMEs to build healthy networks,” says CEO Hooper. "We agreed, and we think it’s time for a new approach that makes a healthy network achievable, even for the smallest company.”

Napera: Simple, Cost-Effective Solutions Have Universal Appeal.

Napera was founded to deliver an easy and affordable way for IT administrators to provide employees and guests with secure access to company resources, while also ensuring a “healthy network” — a network that operates at peak efficiency and is free from unknown systems and infected machines, ensuring maximum employee productivity and helping a businesses bottom line.

“Every IT manager needs to know the health and identity of computers connecting to their network,” says CTO Boscolo. “Without this knowledge, it’s impossible to ensure a network is healthy. Napera will set the standard with an affordable product that champions simplicity, innovation, value, and a deep understanding of customer needs.”

Napera’s chairman is Chris Slatt, founder and former CEO of WatchGuard. Senior engineers are from WatchGuard in addition to companies such as F5 Networks, Check Point Software Technologies and Sun Microsystems. The company had been operating in stealth mode since December 2006 as Altus Networks.

As a Microsoft partner, Napera will participate in the launch of Windows Server 2008 in Los Angeles, California on February 27, 2008. Napera Networks will unveil its network health solution at this year’s RSA Conference in San Francisco on April 8, 2008.
