At RSA: Napera Will Demonstrate New Approach to Solve Today’s Network Security Crisis for Small and Medium Enterprises

Napera integrates plug-and-play appliances, Web-based management service, and seamless support of Microsoft’s NAP architecture into a single solution to deliver secure, healthy networks in three easy steps

SEATTLE, WA, March 31, 2008 -  Startup Napera Networks (www.Napera.com) today announced a line of integrated products and Web-based services to solve the ongoing network security crisis for small and medium enterprises: network health. Offering a new approach that directly integrates with Microsoft’s Network Access Protection (NAP) architecture, the Napera solution combines the Napera N24 and N24S appliances to automatically enforce health and identity on the network with the MyNapera.com Web service that delivers management with point and click ease. The Napera product line will be demonstrated for the first time at the RSA Conference in San Francisco from April 8-10, 2008 in booth 123.

“After years of implementing firewalls and other complex and expensive network security measures, growing companies today still face a formidable threat: they don't know the health and identity of the computers on their networks,” says Napera CEO Todd Hooper, a veteran of WatchGuard Technologies, the company that introduced plug-and-play firewalls and the web-based LiveSecurity update service to small businesses in the 1990s. “A single laptop computer, plugged into the company network by an employee or guest, can compromise multiple systems and cost thousands of dollars worth of troubleshooting time.”

While Network Access Control (NAC) solutions have promised to solve this crisis in the large enterprise, the approach is failing: A 2007 study from Forrester Research revealed that of the forty percent of surveyed enterprises that had started to install NAC, only four percent had successfully completed deployments.

Hooper continued, "It's time for a new approach to solve this problem for SMEs that deploys quickly, delivers useful results right away, and removes the cost and complexity of enterprise NAC solutions. We believe we have the solution with the combination of the Napera N24 and the MyNapera.com online service.”

Napera: Designed to Meet the Specific Needs of the SME

“With hundreds of mobile employees across multiple offices, controlling network health is a major challenge for any SME IT shop. We can’t afford expensive solutions designed for large enterprise networks,” said David Takeuchi, IT Manager at Anchor Environmental. “The Napera solution was clearly designed for companies like us. We simply plugged in the Napera N24 appliance and it helped us understand our network health immediately. This is exactly what SME's need to build a safe, secure, and healthy network.”

Napera's solution is designed to get corporate networks healthy, while eliminating the need to manage complex enterprise deployments that require the installation of third party agents, new servers, and network reconfiguration.

Only Napera provides growing businesses with the following unique benefits:

  • Fast Deployment with a 10-Minute Installation: Unlike enterprise NAC products that can take months to implement, businesses can be up and running on Napera in minutes without making radical network changes. The Napera solution is designed to improve network health with minimal disruption. Authorized and healthy users connect at gigabit speed, while at the same time, unknown and unhealthy computers are safely quarantined until they are brought into compliance.
  • Integrated Web Service Simplifies Ongoing Management: The Napera appliances work in conjunction with MyNapera.com, an online service that activates immediately on installation and makes managing network health as easy as launching a Web browser. MyNapera.com provides reporting, logging, alerting, software updates, and Web-based management without requiring the installation of new server hardware or software.
  • End User Experience Eliminates Time-Consuming Help Desk Calls: Windows users with unhealthy computers are proactively alerted via the Microsoft NAP agent so users can correct problems without burdening the help desk.
  • Affordable Price Point Designed for SME IT Budgets: For less than $3,500, SMEs can deploy the Napera solution to automate network health and identity enforcement and proactively prevent expensive problems that would otherwise take hours or days to clean up. The Napera N24 offers 24 individually configurable ports, supporting up to 200 devices at full gigabit speed. The Napera N24S, a stackable expansion appliance, adds 24 additional ports. As network needs evolve, up to eight Napera appliances can be stacked for a total capacity of 192 ports and up to 800 devices.

Pricing
The Napera N24 appliance is $3,495 and includes a one-year subscription to the MyNapera.com service. The Napera N24S expansion appliance is priced at $995. Both will be available in Q2, 2008.
